National Park System of Costa Rica
In Costa Rica 30% of the land area are protected areas. Not all protected areas are accessable to travelers. Some reserves are closed to everyone except researches with permits. Indigeneous reserves for the few remaining tribes in Costa Rica and have almost no infrastructure for tourism. Most visiters stick to the main National Parks and few reserves that have trials and other facilities.A few parks and refuges provide basic camping facilities or food and accomodations in ranger stations. Those most often visited by campers are Santa Rosa in northwestern Costa Rica( tropical dry forest, wildlife, beaches) and Corcovado in the Peninsula de Osa ( rainforest, wildlife). Cahuita and Tortuguero, on the Caribbean, and Volcan rincon de la Vieja in the northwestern Costa Ric are parks that allow camping but have very basic campsites. Other either have no camp ground or prohibit camping.
